Ingredients

  • 1 cup jamun pulp (fresh or frozen)

  • 1-inch ginger, peeled and grated

  • 1/2 cup honey or sugar (adjust to taste)

  • 6 cups water

  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

  • 1 sprig mint leaves (optional)

Directions

  • Prepare the jamun pulp:
    Wash and pit the fresh jamuns you are using. Mix the pulp with a little water until it becomes smooth paste.
    Thaw the jamun pulp completely while it is on frozen.
  • Make the ginger-lemon syrup:
    Mix the gated ginger, honey/sugar, and 1 cup of water and cook it in a saucepan.
    Simmer for 5 minutes.
    Take out from the heat and cool slightly.
    Filter the syrup from the pepper to remove the ginger pieces.
  • Assemble the lemonade:
    Put the jamun pulp in a large jug and add the ginger- lemon syrup, the remaining 5 cups of water, and the lemon juice.
    Stir well to combine.
    Adjust the sweetness and tartness to your taste.
    Mint leaves (optional) for an extra refreshing touch.
  • Serve chilled:
    Pour the lemonade over ice and enjoy your drink!

Tips:

  • Jaggery may be used instead of honey or sugar for a richer flavor.
  • And you can also throw in some slices of fresh ginger to the pitcher to add a zing.
  • Add less water if you want the lemonade to be thick.
  • Leftover lemonade is stored in refrigerator for a period of 3 days.
